pulsing xenias dying,what to do

my xenias are slowly (within two or three days ) losing there fingers. about an hour ago i noticed one two out of three stalks curled in like its night out. i thought at first man are those xenias growing quick when i seen them without fingers. but after seeing that there curled in like that and its still about an hour away from lights out im concerned. i tested my water about 5pm and everything was dead on. i got two new vho bulbs a couple of weeks ago but other than that no new changes. has this ever happened to anybody else? advice/answers/comments appreciated.

there is not much you can do with xenia coral--I had it live for over a year then all of a sudden melt away for no apparent reason
Some consenus here is that it likes alot of light, will tolerate alot flow and seems to do well in less then the best tank water parameters.
I have some in my fuge right now that is doing great probably due to the higher conc of nitrates and phosphates there.

im going to the frag swap in cleveland next weekend. im purchasing zoas and a brain. they were out of a heart and courage though. will the xenias dying affect my zoas? reason i ask is i have never had them and always wanted them. well i guess i better go iron my good black dress pants for the funeral then.

no, i havent tried that yet. thats a great idea, well off to go get a newspaper. i had corn for diner will that affect the nitrates?

sorry nooby here... I don't get the joke LOL are you saying bad water conditions is what a xenia needs to thrive??? that would probably explain why my pulsating xenia are growing like weeds LOL

some reefers have reported that their xenia has done better in higher nitrate and other organic levels.
It is definetly not a definitive statement.

Yes. In a way that was a compliment to 1628. They dont necessarily need "dirty" water, but I find they do better with a little nitrates and a little bit of poo

im thinking to myself while i read that statement "what the hecks up this guys butt". so now i get the joke. i really like xenias too! is there any other xenias that i can keep without putting some heat in the tank? by the way my wife wanted to know what i was doing on that chair with my pants down over my tank. and stupid me i just could of went in the sump. i never in a million years would think bad water is good. capn what do you think about the zoas quest. in thread above?

ya my tank has pulsating xenia growing like weeds, I have no less than 200 featherdusters(I am not exagerating) and they are all about 3 months old and about there fans are about the size of a dime LOL

I don't know what it is LOL I do bi weekely water changes, and have enough live rock etc. Although I love to feed, but it really isn't that much. I feed usually once a day sometimes twice. In a feeding I stick a piece of seaweed to a clip for the tang and then I throw in a piece no bigger then a finger nail of frozen mysis in the tank. The clowns and the tang pound that before it even comes close to the rock.

Algae is just kicking my *** and peaing on my while I'm down. I have mexican turbos who seem to be in heaven since the algae grows in front of their face while there eating in one spot.

I hate my tank LOL I spent $5000 to make a relaxing atmosphere in my family room. Like hell LOL

Rabbit, the pellets are more easily digestable.

I have the same problem. Started a new tank with much clearer water than my original tank, which was coated in algea and my Xenia just started to melt away, while the rest of my corels did fine. Strange softy that one is.

XENIA IMO Is A Great water indicator, if it is growing well then you have dirty water (elevated nitrates, phosphates) if it is melting then your water is nice and clean.
