Any one have RK2 Systems Protein Fractionator?
Saw this protein skimmer on the Dr.Fosters website, it is made by RK2 Systems which makes protein skimmers for many public aquariums (eq. Monterey Bay Aquarium). Wondering if it is any good or is there a better skimmer for the price.
Article: RK2 Systems Inc. X-FLO Venturi Protein Fractionator Professional protein fractionator for home reef aquariums. The X-FLO Venturi Protein Fractionator from RK2 Systems, the world's largest supplier of protein fractionators to commercial and public aquariums industries, is engineered for performance. The X-FLO uses hydraulically engineered, flow velocity changes to optimize waste-removing bubbles. By creating distinct areas of fast and slow-moving water, a true counter-current condition is created within the reaction chamber. The bubbles are "charged" with more dissolved protein, resulting in efficient removal of waste materials for optimum water quality. Special wide base design reduces discharge velocity to produce a "stilling" action that prevents air bubbles from entering the aquarium. The X-FLO Venturi Protein Skimmer measures 9" x 9" x 23" high. For saltwater aquariums up to 100 gallons. Features: Dual skimmate drain connections Ozone compatible construction Versatile in-sump or out-of-sump application Lid, cup, and cone are made of unbreakable, molded polycarbonate Accurate level control for easy duplication of preferred setting Unique, flexible medical hose allows for simple and versatile pump connections Entire unit disassembles for cleaning and upgrades Domed lid allows close to zero clearance installation Available with or without Mag 9.5 Magnetic Drive Pump |

I havent seen that one in person yet, but based on the design, I bet it sucks. RK2 dominates the commercial market simply due to lack of competition, but the reality is that they suck. I just saw some more a couple weekends ago at the Shedd... 8feet tall and then some, almost 3' around, and only pumping 100scfh of air. Thats pathetic. The on-staff aquarists werent very happy with them at all.

There was one running on a tank at MAX last weekend. Two flow meters were attached. One read 20 scfh and the other 10. Not sure what size, or if it was properly setup (it was on the kids touch pool), but I assumed if they went through the trouble of adding flow meters, they wanted us to see the numbers

hahn,
That funny, i look at two 10 footer that pull about 125 scfh, the operators actualy restrict the air!!! They showed me it could pull about 225 when opened up. Sad Skimmers that pull mega amperage is a better name for them.
