Sump equipment?

Some more questions on the sumps from a beginner.

My LFS set me up with HOB skimmers and HOB filters(original set up was no sump or refugium-since changed that plan) but they know nothing about sumps or refugiums and the equipment needed.

So a brief idea of what would be the best (not necessarily brand) equipment in a sump would be great. Doing a 90g DT and don't really know what size sump/refugium I need but was thinking in the lines of 30g sump and separte refugium about same size or smaller draining into sump via gravity.

Will a HOB skimmer work or is a insump better?
Is a canister the better way to go then HOB filter?
I assume I need a pump to get water back to tank or can the canister filter do that too?
Either way what gph should I be looking for? Currently it would only have to pump up about 2-3ft and 2-3ft over. (I will have 2 powerheads in-tank I believe combined they are 800gph in that area.)
Anything else that would be useful? (not getting into Auto-topoff yet or stuff like that, no wave makers ect.)

I DO know I need a light for the refugium. Yea me.

I've read a lot of the sump/refugium threads and I am a little confused and I think overloaded with info.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

IMO you don't need either a canister or HOB filter. I saw a pretty cool DIY sump video on YouTube I think it was a two part video. You might want to check it out. Everyone sends everyone to this page when sumps are mentioned http://www.melevsreef.com/allmysumps.html
