Protein Skimmer

Hello -

I have a 30 gallon cube that I bought from LFS about 3 months ago.
Anyways, it have a built in Protein Skimmer on that back of it however; I do not think that it does enough. I still find a lot of "trash" if you will floating along the top. I clean the filter sponge(s) about 3-4 times a week - it just isn't enough.

I am thinking one of two things, clean more often (and yes I do water changes weekly about 5-10%) or should I buy a better skimmer to hook on the back to do a better job? Hope this makes sense..

Is it a Remora--or does it have an internal overflow
If that is the case you need to either lower the overflow so the water has to fall into it and or direct a powerhead on the surface so it is churning the water towards the overflow
