refugium
im about to buy a 30 gallon breeder or however you spell it and i was wonderin if i should pitch out the extra money to get a refugium or to just get a regular filter and skimmer, does it really help your tank and ecosystem that much?

Macro algae can romove more nutrients than a protein skimmer. And if you look around, you can get some nice looking macro algae, some of it, tangs love to eat, some of it can be toxic to fish. Before the tang police comment, a 30 gallon breeder is too small for tangs.
Additional benefits are, you have a place for copepods to grow, and that is a benefit to the entire tank, and its kind of nice to watch grow. check out this thread, kind of long, but listen to Randy, and Bertoni, they have good practical info, and are not prone to gimicks. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...readid=1349443 |

IMO yes....if you can tie a fuge into any system I think they are very beneficial. Especially in a reef. You can put the fuge in the 30 if you section it off right and you really don't need to spend any extra money at all. Maybe an extra piece or 2 of acrylic.
