Thanks. I had read many of the pages of this thread and while trying to absorb the info, my head started protesting. ha ha.

My tank is 72 long too and I am also planning on using three of the LB minis with the reeflux 12k's. I can't wait to get this baby up and running. Thanks again.

No problem anomie! I know what you mean about your head protesting but not as much as my after reading all 39 pages. I was so glad when Mike spent so much time with me making sure I was getting the proper lighting. I get my new LB minis along with the reeflux 12k's on Tuesday. I don't know who will be happier, me or my corals. Good luck!

Ok. Here's a couple pics...they are quick snapshots, so they might not fully show off the results. And, Joyce, Mike hooked me up with the ReefLux 12K bulbs. I've only had this up and running for 24 hours, but I can tell you that the temp inside my canopy is down about 10 degrees, but we've had the windows open with the better weather recently, so that might be skewing the results a bit.

...and the Vortech that I got is also nice, which is how this whole little project started...

Here is the tank prior to rearranging all the rocks:

Here are a series with the new lighting:

And I can't say enough about Mike's customer service. If you are Chicago and need anything, call him.

Best regards!

Wow! What a difference in the lighting. Thanks for posting the pictures. Tank is coming along nicely. Can't wait for mine to arrive tomorrow. Also couldn't agree more about Mike's customer service. It is outstanding.

Alright so I looked into the larger ones, and they do seem to be a better fit for my application. My question now is that I have run DE HQI bulbs for a while now, how does the intensity of SE bulbs compare to that of DE bulbs?

I ask because the larger reflectors appear to only be available in SE version.

I don't know how a DE compares to a SE. I have only used SE on my set up. You can purchase the LB pendant in a DE version, but I haven't seen such the reflector in a DE version.

I know that the DE version is available in the mini, but I have not seen it for the large reflector.

I am planning on getting three of these LB reflectors and the Reeflux 12K SE bulbs based on the photos and reviews in this thread.

I have Blue Wave M80 ballasts. How will these bulbs run on my ballasts? Should I get the LB package with the Coralvue ballasts or use my Bluewaves?

I do like the fact that the CV ballasts weight much less than the Bluewaves.

Joyce

Go with the Coral Vue ballast if you plan on running the Reeflux Bulbs. IMO they will look alot better as they seem to burn better on electronic ballast, plus they will be more energy efficient.

Thanks!

Is SE the best way to go with these setups?

I prefer SE. Have never been a fan on the DE. You have more bulb options with the SE.

Yes, I think I will try the SE. I have three DEs now in my Maristar fixture.

Thanks!

You will enjoy the SE. And for some reason (which I highly doubt) you don't like the Reeflux bulbs you have many- many other options with SE bulbs that burn well on electronic ballast. Good luck with what ever you choose.

Anyone know who has the Lumen Bright III Mini Pendents in stock? I find a fair bit with reflectors, but not the finished black pendent.

Thanks!

I did try that place, but once you try and put the mini 250 SE pendent in the cart, it says OUT OF STOCK.

I would give him a call. I talk to him yesterday and he had tons of everything. I would also let him know there must be a glitch on the site.

WOW!!!

Look what Lumen Brights have done for my tank so far. Pictures speak better than words.

Corals moved from my 90gal to the 180gal in the December of 07

Frags received from Mike @ Reef Specialty on the 16th of February 08.

And Today!!!! 5/08

Thanks, I am still amazed on how fast everything grows under these lights. The colors are also unbelievable. Now if I can get Jim (bubbletip) on over to get some real photos in 6 months.

I will get over there soon enough JR. Your tank looks outstanding. The tank has come a long way in a short amount of time. Nice work my friend. Great growth on many of those acros. Colors look great too. It will be fun shooting your tank. If you could be so kind, you could throw me a small chunk of that blueberry mille and I would be oh so grateful

I was over at Mike's(Acropora Nut) last night and got a few keepers. It has been a while since I had been over and WOW, many of the coral in there tripled or quadrupled in size. The crazy thing is he is also pruning these coral to share with other reefkeepers.

This is a shot of the left side of the tank 6 months after complete reconstruction of this reef. Mike had this 400w 12K bulb turned down a bit so the blue was more prominent in this shot.

This shot was pretty tough to capture. This coral structure was very close to the surface of the water getting 800-1100 PAR measured with the pumps on. This mass is getting plenty of flow too. This is a coral I remember being 1/4 the size.

Here is one of the canopy also very close to the surface of the water. This canopy is getting PAR values from 600-1200 throughout the whole area covering this pillar.

Another side view of the tank:

And a few fish shots:

Nice Melanarus Wrasse:

A couple of Mike's beautiful Sohal Tang. This fish has gotten much bigger as well - really got his color too...
