They don't need a lot to eat. Best chance for survival are:

excellent water quality

excellent lighting (t5 or MH)

food

In that order. They will pull meaty scraps in as you feed your fish.

Also, don't be surprised if he deflates entirely with a brown mucus coming out of his mouth soon. That's his way of making a doo-doo.

Feeding your anemone is fine. I do that all the time. A few times a week is ideal, in my opinion. Just watch the water quality.

They start to smell badly, I'm told. I don't really know.

They start to decompose, get small and turn slimy and if removed do smell badly like any dead thing.

I hope that doesn't mean you have first hand experience

If it dies you should remove it , it will pollute your tank and likely spur a cyanobacterial bloom

Well, nothing major in the way of a catastrophe, but I did have some very smelly Caulerpa die-off.

I had a condy anemone that killed every fish in my tank when it died. I won't have anotherr anemone in my tank. In a 24 gallon tank, things go wrong quickly. When mine was alive it also would not stay put and ended up moving corals and being a nuisance.
