mh ballast

i just replaced my 3 mh ballasts in a housing box that controls a strip. they are silent! my other box holds 2 more which controls a separate strip of 2 mh. all are 250w. it has a very loud hum. from what i remember, it has always had a hum but not this loud. anyway, i am going to replace those 2 next. should i just use the same brand that they are? advance is the maker, but i used a different brand for the ones i just replaced. howard i think is the name. the only problem is that they are larger and so the box does not completely close, which is ok with me. has anyone else had experience with advance ballast and noise?
