Question Need Help On Why My Pump Shots Sand

Okay here the quick history my brother lived in this apartment and had a cool reef tank when he got married 3 months ago I took over the apartment and he left the tank to me so please bear with my words on the aquarium lingo.

My tank 125 gallon pre drilled I have 100 pounds live sand and 200 pounds live rock.

My question is where my chiller runs into and my protein skimmer is you put water in there to a certain level well for some reason I fill mine half up and within 2 days it almost drained! When it drains to almost empty my tubes on the top of the tank where the water comes out to make a current shots sand but where it gets the water from there is no sand what gives? And I also put more watre in every 2 days and everything goes back to normal and my water goes back to crystal clear and no sand from the heads.just wanted to know if a this was normal and b if I can do anything so I don't have to keeping puting so much in.There is no leaks anywhere on the tank or under the tank no water what so ever. Also if anyone has a royal blue hippo tang pretty big I am willing to buy if willling to sell thank you guys in advance fro you help and ANYTHING WILL HELP ME
