Help with ASM G1 skimmer. Please

I just put on my new ASM G1 skimmer on my 55g. I was wondering how I could control the amount of time the bubbles are in the chamber? I want to run the skimmer so the bubbles arent at the bottom of the cup but maybe toward the middle to top of the cup. Any ideas on how to achieve this or is the bottom of the cup where I want the bubbles to start?

Thanks

Bear with me because I'm not technical AT ALL! I have a G3 and we were able to raise our bubble level by raising the part where the air comes in up a bit. On my skimmer, this is the part that's covered by black floss/foam material. I'm not sure what this is actually called and I'm also not sure if the G1 has the same part.

Is that where the water exits the skimmer? The tube with the black sponge on it?
