Live Rock question

I just picked up 60lbs of live rock from another locals tank and wasn't thinking and put it directly into my own tank. After a few hours and a lot of pondering going through my head I pulled it out and threw it into a rubbermaid to make sure that there would be no mini-cycle happening. Will I be ok that it was in the tank for a few hours and then I pulled it out or am I going to be in trouble with this?

hey scoobyalty you will have put a pump in the rubbermaid as for the dunking in your tank you need to be on the lookout for the hitch hikers? best thing is to be abile to look at your rock for days/weeks be for you put it in the display tank. i can tell you all about hitch hikers coritan every thing rocks/corals/fish for min 2 weeks

I have been down the road before with curing rock so I do have 2 powerheads and a heater in there. I looked through the tank and did not see any hitchhikers. The rock was very clean I just got a bit nervous and wanted to make sure is why it ended up in the rubbermaid instead of still in the tank

How was the rock transported from the locals house to yours? Also how old is your tank? Do make sure you put a pump and heater in with rock in rubbermaid light if there are any corals on it.

It was transported in a rubbermaid. My tank is 5.5 months old. Definately a heater and powerheads in there with it. No coral on the rock.

Was the rock transported dry or in water? If it was kept wet I would say it would be fine to add it if it was dry for more than 10 15 mins I would say leave it in the rubbermaid.

If the rock stayed wet, and you know the person you got the rock from, i'd say you are going to be fine.

Also, even if the rock does have some die off, a well established tank usually can breakdown the excess.

Yeah the rock was taken out of the tank a few hours before I got there so it was still moist, but not wet that is why I took it back out of my DT and put it into the rubbermaid. I just do not want to take any chances and after the brain fart I had and added it to my tank to begin with I just wanted to make sure I will be ok still. Definately no hurry to get it into my tank, but the sooner I can add it the better

I think you're going to be fine, bro. Low and slow is the best motto
