too much flow?

i have a 72 bowfront and currently have 2 korallia 4's plus the return flow. i like the flow, but have been thinking about adding some more, maybe on a timer. i have a friend that has a seio 1100 and a seio 1500. if i add these pumps on a timer in an indirect flow direction, will this be too much?

should i buy both? or should i just get one or the other?

I think that would be overkill myself. It looks like your already at around 40x turnover.

Depends on what you're trying to keep. I assume it's a BB with that kind of flow? I actually had the exact same question a few weeks back.. I setup a barebottom 75g aimed at sps.... currently I have:

2 Koralia 4's in it,
1 MJ 1200 with a sureflow mod (1600gph)
1 MJ 900
1 Mag 18 returning water from my basement...

I kind of like it. Might be overkill but so far things in my tank seem awful happy... granted I only have 5 chromis, but still! The corals are happy.

Agreed with crichard. The amount of flow that you need for your tank should be based upon what type of set-up you are going for. The types of corals that you plan on keeping in the main determiner as to how much flow you will need.

I have 2 Tunze 6055's in my 72 Gal tank I had to turn them down.

They had so much flow the corals were not opening up all the way.

i dont have bare bottom, i just point the powerheads upward. i have a mixed reef and would like a little more flow, but i guess i dont need it. i just wanted to add some wave movement. now that i think about it i may end up with a sand storm.
