Need an ID

Hello folks!! I need your expertise. While checking out the scene i noticed some brown spots on some new corals. I reached in the see if it was algae the spots moved!! They are small flat and brown. Im hoping someone knows what they are and if they are harmful or not. In the pic they are the brown spots on the rock with the zoos and they are all over under the pink stylo. Thanks gang!!

Well did you quarantine the corals before dumping them in your tank or at least give them an iodine dip?

Sounds like you may be dealing with flat worms. Bad. Really bad.

By the way, if you want that Acro frag to live, you'll move it far, far away from two of the most noxious animals in the world--the zoas and the ricordia.

From the pic they appear to be brown flatworms. Take a look here: http://www.liveaquaria.com/general/g...al_pagesid=362

thanks everyone!! after a bit of research i feel comfortable calling them red flatworms.. now to answer your question abulgin... I usually dip all my coral and give them a freshwater bath before putting them in the display. I have noticed these bugs for a while now but i thought it was just some algae cuz it wasnt much and they dont move... i only see them on the rock and its only that one rock. as far as the stylo frag.. its a temp home. currently cooking off rock due to a bad HA outbreak. Now back to the worms. anyone recommend a method of erraticating these pests?

...not knowing what you have already, I highly recommend a six line. I have had great luck with this wrasse eating these guys. You should also go in there with a turkey baster and physically suck as many of them out as you can.

that was my plan of attack. i pulled a few critters out by hand and looked at them with a microscope. and compared to the pics its def the red flatworms. melevs page on these is great and going to try what he recommends. I currently have 2 perculas and a orange spotted and a engineering goby. Tomorrow im going to get a 6 line and hope he doesnt bother the clowns and im also going to syphon the worms out. once i get a handle on them ill try the flatworm eXit by salifert
