maybe if they were starving for weeks but just in a regular tank situation, no.

Mine did. He'd ride around on the Hydor Flo and chomp on hair algae all day. That was the only place I ever had any.

we have a whole tank of them at work and ive always heard people talking about how they eat bubble and hair algea, never seen them eat either unless there starving. They can get kinda nasty anyways. IMO there cons outweigh there pros.

Then how can I get rid of hair algae? I have it on just one rock?

one of the only things ive seen ACTIVELY eat hair algea is urchines. I have a blue tuxedo in my reef and he does a great job of keeping everything nice and clean although they can be annoying becuase they will pick up alot of stuff around your tank. all my coral are glued down

you have to approach an algae problem from the perspective that it is a problem with increased levels of phosphates and nitrates in your tank.

I got a couple turbo snails and they at all of my hair algae that I had on a rock in my tank, they had it cleaned totally in about 2 days, not sure if this is common or not though.
