budget sump idea?
for starters i'm new to the forum but defanitly like what i see. so i have a new 55 gal tank and a 28 gallon bowfront. the idea goes something like this. keep in mind im going for cheap. a cs50 (cpr) hang on overflow into the 28 gallon which will be filled with half LR half algae lit with a 36watts of t5,then a sea clone 100, and a marineland magnum 350 pro as the return. let me know what you think!

I would go with a U-tube style overflow over the CPR. The U-tube is usually less likely to break siphon than CPR's models. Good luck!

I just bought a U-Tube style for my 40 gal because it's not drilled. It works great, plus with the dual drain setup, it works perfectly for my sump under the 40 gal to drain into fuge section and skimmer section. Return is set in the middle of the sump and returns to both the left and right sides of the tank. It's not annoyingly loud either. I put a black piece of Acrylic over the back because I did get some algae growing in there from the lights.

so i see in sumps that you need to have baffles for bubble control. the tank i'm going to use for it is a 28 gal bow, how could i make some for it? keeping in mind i live in a barracks with no tools... or can i just get away with one of those tank dividers because im going to use the magnum 350 as the return? are they sensitive to small bubbles?

use a regular AGA tank for a sump. a 20L would work.. they're about $25 i think.. a few more bucks at HD for some panes of glass, the glass cutting kit and some silicon and you're in business.
Agu has a pretty basic sump setup made from a 10 gallon tank. here you go: |
