Question Drilling 29 gallon

Okay here is a rudimentary plan for how I might drill my 29 gallon tank. What do you think about the dual 1inch drainpipes? good Idea or should I just stick with one? Also I plan on making the drain and return pipes the same thickness of 1 inch. I have heard some people make them different sizes, but I dont want to mess with 2 drill bits.

I also need a reccomendation for a pump to return the water, It will need to be able to pump upward about 3.5 feet I dont know what power I need let alone what brand, the sump will be about 10 gallons

you need to figure out what size hole you need for a 1" bulkhead if that's going to be your drain/return size. I think the hole is 1 3/4". I used a mag5 for 2 years on a 29 and it worked great. Also be sure and make your holes (or have them drilled) the proper distance from the edges and eachother. 2 drains is better than one in case one plugs up. Read about Herbie's drains and Durso's. I would not tie in the two drains to one pipe going in to the sump. One snail or a clump of algae and its all over! You will need some gate or ball valves in that setup as well to control the flow. I think you are reinventing the wheel here though. I bet there are 50 threads with all of your same questions. Just look for build threads and find one about your size.
