hippo tang

I have a 30 gallon reef, Im going to upgrade into a 125-150 gallon in less then a year. I found some very small hippo tangs (like under an inch). Would they be ok in my 30 gallon for less then a year? Prob for 7 months or so. They were SOOO small!

Thanks,

Josh

I would hold off for a while. Blue tangs are incredibly fast growers and can be a little fragile when they are small. In the long run you will end up with a healthier fish.

No, I don't think you should do it.

Like others have said, they are fast growers, no need to add stress -- they get ick easily enough as it is.

Plus, you never know what may happen in the next year, the upgrade might be delayed.

as stated the smaller hippos also have a poor track record. for reasons unknown smaller hippos may just end up dying for certain reason.

I am with Todd, things can come up and the upgrade may not go as planned, then what. just wait till the upgrade 1st. it is much better for the fish.

+1 hold off until the upgrade. you will always be able to find the small/tiny hippo tangs. no need to rush and possibly losing it to stress. be patient. the only thing that happens when we rush in this field is not good.
