Question What RC tip has helped you most?

I guess I have been on RC a little over a month (frequently anyway) I have to say that in those few weeks the clarity of the display has greatly increased. I attribute it to those who have been willing to share their experiences and insight with those of us that are new around here. Thanks to all of you who have given of that insight! I greatly appreciate it as I imagine numerous others around here do as well.

If I had to pin it down to one thing that has helped the most, it would be replacing the bio balls with filter socks (on a limited basis after the bio balls are removed). Secondly, it would be the addition of the powerheads for increased flow. I know that may seem elementary to most, but hey I am in grade school when it comes to this.

Again I appreciate all of the past insight and future consideration!

What has worked for you that has been suggested on RC?

Tswifty's advice on building a sump/refugium that I haven't started building yet, my parents are a bit leery about letting me build it in the old house cause they think it'd be a PIA to move.

The need to set up a QT was the best advice.

all the other things mentioned are good tips, but can be found in other places if you look....the absolute best tip that a group of people(the members at RC) can give a newb to this hobby is

PATIENCE, PATIENCE, PATIENCE

and the runner-up is

Make one change at a time...and wait to see what happens before doing something else.

those are the kinds of tips that articles and books rarely mention.

good stuff ain't cheap, and cheap stuff ain't good!

words to live by. you can buy the same piece of crap 3 times or just buck up at the beginning and buy quality equipment from the git-go. saves you $$$ and aggravation in the long run.

Good point Saltee.

Waiting, watching, and testing, then waiting some more is very difficult! The results are well worth the wait!

Man we should practice this one in most every purchase we make. We always get what we pay for!

Don't be cheap with lighting, you will end up spending more in the long run otherwise. Find out what you need and drop the cash the first time around.

That has to be my favorite because it is sooo true. But the other one, "nothing good ever happens quickly" sure resonates as well. And finally, "if you can't test for it, don't dose it" are words to live by.

Like someone's quote at the bottom of their post says, "If you can't afford the water you can't afford the hobby"

Using RO/DI water eliminates so many possible problems!
