to reuse sand or not to???

I will be transporting a tank about a 2+ hour drive. I may or may not set up the entire system right away, but I have other tanks to "hold" things in. What are the pros and cons of using the sand that is currently in the system? I know I will have to pull it out of the tank to transport. It is about 100 pounds worth. I have been playing with the idea of using it and temporarily running hob filters with cartridges in them to remove the debri that may/ will get kicked up. If I need to "store" it, I would keep some water circulating on the surface of the sand in a plastic tub. I don't know if I will be able to keep the rock wet enough to prevent die off so I may be looking at a mini-cycle just from that.

Please advise & Thank you in advance!
