I would try to watch Craig's List or the forums of any local reef clubs you might have. I'm sure there are some local clubs in Florida that you could use as a source. I often times see it going for $2-$3/lb here in Dallas which beats the hell out of the $8-$9 price at the fish stores.
As for how much rock you need: I've heard that its good to have 1 to 2 lbs per gallon. So it looks like you are on the right track. Note that some fish such as manderins require more rock because they solely eat the pods that live on the rock. Good luck! |

Check for local club sites which you can also find from this site: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/fo...s=&forumid=535 You can often find others selling their rock when downsizing, getting out of the hobby, changing things up, etc. |

I must add a vote for Bulk Reef Supply (http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/). The guys who own the business are great to work with (they let me pick out my rock at the store) and their shipping charges are VERY low. All of their versions of rock run from $2.39/lb to $2.99/lb.

how south florida are you? about 15 miles north of orlando is a cool LFS called ocean direct. great liverock that sells for $3.49 per lb when purchasing 50 lbs or more.
here's a guy in sunrise fl selling live rock for $3 a lb. posted yesturday in Florida Marine Aquarium Society (FMAS) Miami/Ft. Lauderdale if that's close to you. check there often. there are some other south florida clubs that aren't as busy but you never know. check them out in the south east region club forums |

Here at my lfs, they're asking $12.99 for a pound of Figi. Needless to say they don't sell much of it. I would check out www.tampabaysaltwater.com. They've got very good rock and it is loaded with lots of cool stuff. There are however somethings you'll want to watch for but they have a "Bad Critter" list. Great prices and great service!
