adding sand

I know this has been talked about before, and I apologize for reposting, unfortunately search is disabled. My question is does anyone have any good ideas for addding live sand to my tank without destroying the place. I was thinking syphon it into the tank during a water change by lifting the bucket above the tank, but was wondering if anyone had some other ideas. Also what sand is your personal favorite coarse or fine? Thanks for any help.

Depending on how much your adding, just using a simple cup will suffice. It will prevent a massive sandstorm and you can put the sand where you want it, not that will matter much in the long run once the current starts moving it.

I used a piece of PVC pipe, one that was long enough to reach the sandbed but still stuck out of the water. then just pour your sand in the PVC pipe and it will go where you need it.

how big around was the pvc that you used?and was the sand wet or dry?

if the sand is wet u can't use the pvc pipe... It won't go down... I say the cup is the simple and easy way if the sand is wet. But if the sand is dry, then u could just use the pvc pipe to prevent a big sand storm... If I'm wrong please correct me

dont forget to stick a funnel on the end of the pvc pipe or you living room floor might end up looking a lil like the beach

Thanks everyone, excellent ideas. It looks like I will just use a cup, since I will be using live sand that is wet already.
