Setup Question

I have a 45 gallon tank with a 350 magnum canister filter and just received my cpr bak pak 2 protein skimmer in the mail. I ordered the bio bale media, the bak pak pre-skimmer, and the bubble trap for it as well which I will have tomorrow.

Tomorrow night I will be hooking it up.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with these; any pointers or modifications that I should do before hooking it up as the instructions dictate.

I am also looking into purchasing the aquafuge 2 refugium HOB as well. But not for a month or so.

Any pointers and recommendations are greatly appreciated

I think you'll find that 90% of the replies will tell you not to use the magnum.

IMO, you should keep it as it will be good to use to polish your water...and in fact, you should use it 24/7 to help cycle your tank.
after that, use it to polish your water, maybe run carbon or phosban etc.......
keep an eye on nitrates after tank is cycled as the bio-bale will create nitrates aswell.......
just my 2 cents

the tank is already well established. The tank was given to me by a friend that had it running for over a year and now i am upgrading things. I've added fish, live rock, 2 corals and the skimmer so far.
