Loud music - Will my fish wish they were dead?

I have a BIG speaker 3 fet away form my fish tank and I like to play my music loud, ear bleeding levels loud. Besides the fact they will freak when I play loud music, will it send them into total shock?

I know it will when I get that itch to go down the Eminem road

My tank is in the same room I mix and edit recordings in. Sometimes I crank it a bit. Never seen the fish even notice actually. I'll try it today and see what happens. But my closest monitor is a good 7 8 feet from the tank.

it will just stress them. they will feel the vibrations, and that will stress them. they may be fine, they may be veunerable to disease and parasites.

Only if you're playing country music, that might drive them to suicide!

LOL!

I'll try in a few minutes and see what happens. But don't have any country or rap in my protools box. I will spare them that...

I don't mix at a high volume to save my ears. But will turn it up a bit and see if they do anything.

OK I blasted Ozzy. 2 songs. Clownfish went vertical in the Nem and were hearing it I guess. Fresh water fish in the 55 grouped to the front. One pushed it's head into front corner of glass.

Blasted Godsmack and the Adult female came out of nem and hovered in the return flow at top of tank. Baby Clarki took over nem unaffected. The Silver dollars in the fresh water tank hid.

Blasted Hinder. Fish unaffected. Maybe they are used to the noise now.

Remember I have nearfield monitors that are designed to sit directly in front of for stereo imaging. They don't get super loud. Home stereos get alot louder.

How ya like my scientific test lol!

All in all they did hear it but seemed to get used to it. And no effect on nems that I could tell.

Well the Big Clarki seemed to dance in the return during Godsmack. The baby just loved having the LTA alone. Guess my Female is and 80's girl lol.

Trying Skid Row right now. Freshwater fish at front of tank. Female in return flow. Baby Clarki dissapeared somewhere in nem...

I would go vertical too on Ozzy. He likes to bite things, bat heads fish heads, who knows, I would be hiding too.

hey I appreciate the test and will keep it in mind. I am going to think the higher frequencies will get filtered out by the water more than the base. Problem is, I am a bass lover. No, not that rap booooooooom boooooom stuff, though I do like some. I am into kick drum pound your head into the dirt type thumping bass. I have t be careful in my car cause it feels like it can make your heart skip. One friend thanked me for the back message it gave him in the car, lol. Funny thing is, its still not that loud outside the car compared to booming systems. Godsmack has a few good songs. Drowning pools "let the bodys hit the floor" at 16.4 bazillion decibles woud be a good test with 15" woofers.

Poor fishes will not even know what hit them.....

I doubt you have enough wattage to hurt them but it is possible with enough power.

First hand experience with a Large SW tank in a night club opposite to the main stage. Every fish died no matter what. Tank was removed.

Yeah obviously the fish don't have CD's or 24 bit masters to listen too. But Bass can vibrate the water. I have 12 bass traps in my room so I can hear better for my job. And my 2 sets of monitors are smaller near fields. But they seem to like Ozzy and Hinder....

Bon Jovi had a few fantastic songs in the day but had crappy albums.

Give me a nickle and I will test the fish with Bon Jovi...

I used to do live sound and pump mega power into bass bins for punch. I couldn't imagine subjecting fish to that. This is just a little control room monitor test. Nothing that could hurt my pets...

I put sub bass in a major way into the subwoofers. As I am sure everyone does now. You can feel it in your chest. Couldn't imagine fish exposed to that. Keep it real...

we had a fighting fish that used to get into the mood for love whenever we played music with a good catchy bass.

seriously, keep them fairly away from vibrating surfaces: remember that big lateral line nerve that runs the length of their bodies and the fact their tiny bones may pick up a resonance ours wouldn't. Beyond that, if their water or surface isn't vibrating, they're cool.

Yeah the owner felt really bad about killing all those awesome fish, he could have just kept adding them but took the tank down. Nice when people do the responsible thing.

Ok you owe me a nickle. Lemme look for Bon jovi. I think the bass is the big deal tho. And have studio monitors. But using my 8 inch ones for extra punch. But not like a home 12 15 inch bass monster.

Gimme a bit I'll try Bon Jovi lol. Gotta find it...

OK playing runaway, both Clarki's are swimming all around. All 3 freshwater Silver Dollars sitting motionless mid tank.

Hey that was recorded at the warehouse. Been there. Right near masterworks and other places I used to go to.

Don't think the music is actually having any effect. They just look hungry at this point...

Nice he took the tank down. Sorry about the pet loss. But I am sure noone knew. Not many fish owners are audio engineers. And don't need to be.
The Silver dollar pressed it's head against the corner of the tank again. I guess it likes music. But the other fish aren't interested...
