Blue Throat Trigger... What Should He Be Eating?

I just bought a blue throat trigger on Friday and put him in QT. I tried feeding him for the first time yesterday... some thawed-out frozen brine shrimp. He bit the first bite then spit it out, then ignored the rest of it in the tank.

What do these guys like to eat?

In nature they are planktivores, you can see that they have small mouths compared to triggers like picassos. Frozen mysis, krill, and brine shrimp should be a good diet for him. Give him some time, and try again later.

Brine doesn't have a lot of protein. Ocean Nutrition makes a higher protein frozen food specifically for Triggerfish. I bought it for my wrasse who goes crazy for it and actually all my fish eat whatever he doesn't finish of it. Worth a try, scroll down about half way:

I'd do things like mysis, other frozen meaty choices, even some greenery from time to time. Though I've found bluethroats to be terribly shy and not do well in the first few days/weeks of captivity. It may just need some time.
