is it ok to clamp spa flex?
I was re-doing my return plumbing so i could put a ball valve and thought I would give spa-flex a try. Is this stuff ok to put on a hose barb and clamp down instead of gluing?

You should cement it with Weld-On PVC 795 which made for this propose.

thing is Im attaching it to my UV sterilizer and Im also planning on adding a chiller in the near future so i wasnt wanting to make it permanent just yet, I seen one reef site where a guy was using clamps and was just wondering if anyone else had done it without any problems.
thanks for the response though.

I think it would be fine. I mean automotive companies trust them in $100k cars and the hoses on a car aren't exactly the same but there under alot more pressures than the average return line.

I'm also not sure the spa-flex fits the barb (too loose) and a clamp will not work on PVC; it's not like a rubber hose.
What about cementing the flex end on to a male adapter then into a threaded union? That way you are free to change the plumping at a later time. I do this with all my flexible PVC just so I can get it apart for cleaning.

so how long should I give the cement to dry on the PVC if I glue in the unions and the spa flex before I can start running the pump again?
Also on the turbo-twist UV im running, it has a 1" barb and below it is thread, so what kind of bush or adapter would I need for that?

My return is connected to spa flex with just a barbed fitting.. Been like this for 2 years. Though its a Eheim 1260 with a metric fitting. I wouldn't try it outside of the sump though, just in case

I hooked spa flex up to a scwd with a clamp to barb.
I had to heat up the spa flex with a heat gun just to get it over the barb. It would be easier to glue it. Just use a junction so it can be removed.

i appreciate all the help guys, one more question, my pump goes to a UV then up to the tank, would it be ok to put the ball valve after the UV or do I need to put it before the UV?
Thanks alot

why not just use vinyl tubing on a barb as intended.
