why raise Protein Skimmer?
I've seen many threads where people used PVC pipes to raise their Protein Skimmer.
Is there any advantage in doing this? Or is it just for ease of removing the skimmer cup? thanks, |

do you mean to raise off the bottom of sump? If so its needed when the depth of water in the sump is too deep for the skimmer to run properly.

For my sump, the bottom to top is 17 inches (bought it as is) and I have the ER skimmer.
If i need to raise it, how many inches up should I raise to have it skim properly? Or should I drill several holes in the middle of baffle? |

Ib you have the heighth in the stand I would raise the skimmmer. It allows for more volume in the sump.

With more volume in the sump, is that a good thing?

Go to the Euro Reef Site and download the product manual for in-sump skimmers. It says ideal H2O level for the skimmer is 6-8 inches.
