Where to buy a strong reef-ready tank stand
I need to consider a new tank stand for my new 70g (36"w X 18"d).
It's 1/2 Starfire glass and has a center overflow with 1 1/2" and 1" bulkheads in the bottom (towards the back), so I can't use a solid top stand. Where can I find a nice stand? I'm currently using an AGA pine stand on my 50g with the same side/side and front/back dimensions, so it will fit on my current stand, but I'm suspicious it won't be strong enough for my new tank. Many thanks |

I saw a couple of nice unfinished ones on e-bay made by a woodworking company in Tennesee. You would have to assemble it then stain. They also sell matching canopies.

Can we get a picture of this tank? It sounds custom and if it doesnt have any trim, it will need to be supported on the entire bottom like an acrylic tank. Also, if it is trimless you should put it on at least 1/2" of pink/blue insulation foam from home depot. You can just make a cut-out in the top for the drain and return pipes to go through.
Take a look at the 70 gallon Oceanic Tech Tanks. They have the same dimensions, a center hole already cut for the drain and return pipes and if its anything like my 45 Tech Tank, it will be a solid top. Just so you know, the Oceanic Tech stands are all black, cherry or stainless steel with tinted glass doors on all three sides. If your tank does have trim on the bottom, this stand will still work. http://www.oceanicsystems.com/products/tech-series.php |

If you rather not build it yourself, I would get a quote from a cabinet maker for EXACTLY what you want. You might be surprised that it’s not as expensive as you think. A quote is free, so nothing lost to find out.

HUGE thanks for this heads up! I think I do need an Oceanic Tech stand. My new tank is rimless at the top, with Euro-bracing on the inside at the bottom (no outside trim).
Do the Oceanic Tech stands have a cut-out in the center/back for the reef-ready bulk-heads? Tanks again, R- Quote:

The 70 Tech Tank has a center overflow like my 45. The opening measures 14 3/4" x 6".
