Is my skimmer redeemable? Intake is sparking

I've been out of town. I got home and something is screwy with my protein skimmer. The intake makes this awful noise, keeps trying to start, and then sparks underwater. There's that lovely burning smell, too.

I'm thinking I need to just get another skimmer, but figured I'd ask just in case there's some simple explanation that could save me some money. What do you all think?
