Firefish
I love this fish. He was inexpensive as marine fish go. He eats well and stays in view most of the time except when startled. in these instances he is truly a dartfish (there-gone). Beautiful colors yellow around the jaw, flourescent violet stripes on top of head, dark green stripe separating the fins from the body in the rear. Is he a jumper? I know all fish can and will at times but does he have the propensity to jump. Anyone have any experiences?

OH YEAH!!! They are known to be jumpers. I had one that I really enjoyed. I knew they were jumpers and thought that I had the situation covered (LOL). One night I walked by the tank to see the firefish toasting under the light on top of my garden netting cover. Apparently he had jumped through, landed on top and couldn't get back down. The netting was double-layer 3/8" netting with the layers offset to reduce the size of the holes. I guess he managed to find a hole that allowed his skinny, slippery little self through. I'm going to replace the netting with fiberglass window screening, I think, before I get another one. The alternative would be a canopy that goes around all 4 sides of the tank, but I don't have one.

Yea no canopy here either and he is so slender I dont think eggcrate or other common barriers will stop him. So far he has a cubbyhole he hangs by for safety and piece of mind but I know as he becomes more accustumed to the tank and his mates he will explore more and wander. I'll figure something out.

Absolutely he will fit through eggcrate! Mine spent most of his time near the bottom of the tank, or "surfing" in front of one of the powerheads that was midway up the tank. Didn't do much swimming near the top, but probably got spooked one day and went flying. He had been in the tank at least 6 months before his final journey...

Absolutely a jumper, look at getting some plastic window/door screening material from the hardware store.
