Best pump for in-sump return
I have a 90g tank and a 40br sump that has an overall volume of about 110g. I push it up to about 6ft high then back into the main display.
Currently I am using a Mag 12. I think it is a bit noisy though, and the wattage it draws is up there. What is the best return pump with about the same power as the Mag 12, but also quiet?

I would look into eheim. They deal with head loss much better than a mag, and you can get away with smaller plumbing. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...=0012784000000

I think the consensus here is either Eheim or Oceanrunner. Mag is reliable but it's an energy hog and dumps a lot of heat to your tank.

I run mags in the sump with no noise. Do you have any type of dampening material around it so it can't vibrate?? Mine were really noisy just sitting in the sump and then I put the dampening pad on it and it is very quiet now. Do you have it plumbed with all pvc or flex?? If it is all pvc put a short piece of flex in it and try that.

I run a mag in my sump and I love it. It keeps my tank at 81 without heaters... yes, I do keep heaters in there set at 80, but they are never on.
I'd prefer my tank to run at 80degrees, but I'm not complaining at 81 without my heaters running.
