Rubbermaid 100 gallon Stock tank---using for sump, got a question?

I have a rubbermaid 100 gallon stock tank. Of course it is the hard plastic type. I bought it at Tractor supply Co. I have seen several guys using these on here for sumps. I am wanting to know if the tanks have any kind of coating that needs to be cleaned off prior to use. I have rinsed it out well a couple times. The only thing that puzzles me is that when you wash it out, it beads water on the sides(like a waxed car). Wasn't sure if it is a coating or just the type of plastic it is. I have contacted rubbermaid commerical products about it, but i am waiting on there tech department to get a answer(i have been waiting for two weeks ). Anyone know??

It's just the plastic......it's not permeable. Glass does the same thing. No coatings that I'm aware of, so you should be just fine.

It is my understanding that it is just the plastic that is used and not a coating. I have also been told that it is completely non-toxic.

anyone have a step by step build on how to set up one of those as a sump with the skimmer/return/refugium design? maybe have the skimmer/return in the rubbermaid tub and have the refugium is a separate tank? Is that best?

i know there are plenty of step by steps builds of acrylic sumps, but this is the route i would rather go. thanks

I am using mine as a sump and i am installing a 1 1/2" bulkhead and running 1 1/2" pvc to drain into a 45 gallon glass sump(that i am going to use as a refugium) and then have a pump to feed the water back to the main tank. I would be curious too to see someone's design if they put any dividers or something in one or something else(maybe something to support a skimmer, or something to hold some chaeto, etc.).
