xenia coral question

i just bought a xenia coral in moderate water flow. it is not pulsing. should i be concerned?

Give it a couple of days. What are your parameters? Tank size, lights, etc.. If it looks like it is melting or sickly it is probably too late and it's on its way out. Good luck.

parameters are fine and i have 3.5 wpg metal halides in my tank. it is a little higher than mid level in the tank.

I would personally let it die off...Xenia are like weeds, once they start growing it will be almost impossible to get out of your tank. They grow fast and get themselves in little nooks and crannies in the live rock you aren't likely able to reach.

I know your trying to keep your xenia alive and I'm not trying to be negative but think twice before adding xenia to your tank, they might look great when only in a small patch but once they get established they grow and grow and grow and spread everywhere!

I had a small patch in my 280 and after a year I wanted to but was never able to get rid of it, only thing that did the trick was a tank crash and opportunity to cook my live rock!

Xenia = long term headache IMO

But if you do want to keep it alive I found Xenia liked dirtier water so if your water is super clean that might be the problem. Also if you just got it, its normal for it not to pulsate immediately give it a day and see how it looks after that.
