watts?

what does the watts do to the lighting?
like does it make it brighter?

That can be a tricky question. In general, a higher wattage light is going to be brighter, but you have to be careful comparing apples to oranges. Wattage is really just a measure of power consumption, so a more efficient light is going to produce more light at a lower wattage. As long as you're comparing similar lighting (e.g. metal halide to metal halide or T-5 to T-5) and similar color spectrums, you can assume that higher wattage means brighter light.
