alternatives to drilling

ive got a 20g tall tank coming in and i'm planning on using the 10gal i have as a sump/refug

i understand there is a way to build an overflow box so that i won't have to drill my tank,

could someone please outline this for me? im confused as to how it works. my diy skills are above average and i have a wide arsenal of power tools

I'd search the diy forum.

Check out this thread:
$15 PVC Overflow

The first page has the double version but if you look on the second page, there is a very simple single version.

As you have a fairly small tank, you may consider down sizing the plumbing to match you needs.

fatdaddy: i had searched one out on melevs, but was failing to understand the concepts behind it, however it was late and i was tired. i understand now

and rocketengineer: thanks! you dont know it but this is the second time you've helped me significantly in my plans to upgrade my tank. i'll be building your stand posted in the DIY forum later this month for my 20gal (which is as big as i can go in any good conscience, knowing im going to be moving in a year or two)
