Bullet 1 protein skimmer

I'm using a mag 12 to run my Bullet 1 protein skimmer (I recently purchased the skimmer used). The skimmate isn't very dark or thick and the bubbles seem to be too large. Is the mag 12 capable of running the skimmer or should a different pump (pressure rated pump ?) be used? I've followed the directions that came with the skimmer but I can't get better performance....My old LifeReef pulled lots more from the tank than the Bullet 1.

You would be well served to go to their website and see which pump they recommend. I would not recommend running a MAG pump on a beckett injected skimmer. Most likely an Iwaki or Panworld pressure rated pump would be your best bet.

I read the instruction manual, I had a mag 12 pump and I thought it may work with the skimmer. I guess I will need to purchase a Pan World 100 PX-X...money...money...money...what's another $180 anyways..lol

the mag 12 should work for the Bullet 1 IMO. Do you have the old style Beckett or the newer one that is removable?

Either way make sure the beckett is clean. I find even a small piece of carbon, a snail or piece of detrious getting stuck in the Beckett can significantly impact performance.

If you have the older version, that's glued into a piece of pipe (not removable) try soaking it in a strong muriatic acid mix. Use a 10/1 water ratio taking care to pour the acid into the water (not water into acid). Soak the Beckett for an hour then rinse and then soak in fresh water for a while.

I have a Bullet 2, the beckett was giving me fits as I had the old style and cleaning it was a real pain. I ended up upgrading the beckett to the new one. I still have to clean it every once and a while but it's so much easier.

I have the new version Beckett injector. I cleaned the Beckett but it didn't make any difference. I'm not a engineer so in my mind any pump that had the flow rate or higher flow rate should work. I guess there is a difference between a circulation rated pump and a pressure rated pump. The instruction manual gives a "thumbs up" rating for several pumps with the Pan World 100 PX getting the only "4 thumbs up" rating. I guess a Pan World pump is in my future.
