Reef dedicated photo hosting service?
Mods, forgive me if this is the wrong forum. If so, please feel free to move and accept my apologies in advance
![]() I own and run a small web related software development company. As a result, the cost of servers, development time, etc. is relatively cheap. Would a free photo hosting service dedicated to the reef keeping hobby interest anyone? Assuming it was easy enough to use and gave you a comparable set of features compared to other hosting services, would you use it? Any input is appreciated.

I would personally prefer to see a group started on Flickr or something similar. Already invested a lot of time in keeping and organizing photos (aquarium related and otherwise) on there, duplicating that work on another site wouldn't appeal to me.
Others might find it useful, but it seems like if it can't plug directly into the forum itself, and I believe there is already a gallery function, it might be hard to get people to start using it. |

i think its a good idea... i use imageshack.us and if it was comparable/as easy to use i would use it! it would be cool to be able to browse through the pics kinda like u can with the search feature on photobucket

Thanks for the quick feedback guys. I'm thinking it might get some use if it has some elements to it which are reef specific. Giving a bit of a centralized place to view people's photos as well as an easy to use service to host them and easily post them anywhere.

I agree with the reef specific idea.... maybe you can "tag" photos (similar to facebook, if you are familiar) and then have a search for "yellow tang" and tagged photos will show up. This would automatically create galleries for given animals.
Maybe you could also have editing software specific for reef aquariums... for instance a lot of reef photos tend to come out too blue, so you could add a feature to change the color temperature of the photo. Croping and avatar-creation would be nice as well.
