protein skimmers

do u need to use a protein skimmer in a reef tank with a few fish in it or does it take all the cal. and alk. out and coral food

People usually shut off the skimmer when feeding. Cal/Alk shouldnt be affected.

Yeah your Cal/Alk should not take a hit in any way shape of form... but you need a skimmer

skimmer is basically a must have for a reef tank. again Cal/Alk will not be affected and no it wont take your corals food. they still get most from light.

+1 skimmer a must for reef (some FO/FOWL tanks get away without one). It may deplete trace elements but not a significant factor.
