Recurring old live rock
I have about 80lbs of old live rock and would like to restart my reef tank. What would be the process for curing the live rock again.
1. Do I place it in the tank, by some live sand and let it cure? 2. Do I by additional live rock place it in the tank with the old rock and let it cure? Please advise? |

I would put it in a 30 gallon trash bin. Use old water from a water change. Put a power head in it and let it cure for at least a month. Couple of live rock would help it cure faster.

Old water isn't important. If you put it in a bin with saltwater, (circulated, heated) and test the water periodically for a few weeks for ammonia/nitrites/nitrates. It will likely create its own cycle from detritus and dried out flora/fauna inside the rock. Once your sure that its clean enough then you can re-seed it with live sand or live rock.
