snowflake eel escape artist
I have a 29g Biocube with a small snowflake eel. The problem I'm having is that he likes to hang out in the rear chambers with all the filters and such. He can get in and out of the chambers no problem. I guess its not really too big of a deal, but I'd prefer for it not to be in there. Is there some way I can block it off without it being stupid looking?

Get some plastic mesh and ties.
Do you have enough rock caves for him to hide in?

ya there are tons of spots he's dug out underneath all the rocks, he just seems to be pretty active and like to swim all over the place. especially in the back chambers. He's really not hurting anything. Just afraid he'll take it to the next level and hop out of the tank altogether.

I used to have one and based on my experience he will. Covered tanks are a must for snowflake eels.

how long will he be able to keep that eel in that 29gallon tank?
any experienced reefers know? I have a friend with a 90 who wants one, but a smaller one will get demolished by his triggers. How long could one be expected to be able to keep a baby eel in a 20 or a 29 before it got too large?

i have a 90 with a snowflake eel in it, hes a monster est. about 12in. and a 1/2 in.round. he kept going in my overflow when he was smaller and what a fellow reefer told me to do was go get some egg crate from either h.d. or lowes. then cut out the inside footprint of your tank and add 4in. then cut that out. now you have what looks like a picture frame, set that in your tank then put your hood over that and he will never want to have his body out of the water long enough to try and crawl over that lip you made. it worked for me ! that would even work without a hood to but it might look a little weird at first. also there are no lighting issues as far as the lighting shinning thru the egg crate.
i hope this works for ya mike |

yes... a top is a must. I use the reflective eggcrate from H.D. Works great! and ya... that 29 will be too small for the eel in just a few months.
