red algae!!
ok, so i have a lot of red algae on the sand at the bottom of my tank. i asked my LFC or something(the local aquarium store i dont know what the abbreviation is) about it and they said to keep my lights off for a day, turn it on for an hour so my soft coral gets light, then turn it off for another day. so i did this, and the aglae went away a little bit, but when i came home today it looks like red sand. what should i do?????

+1...Patience is key, especially in the first 6 months. Don't dose any chemicals or go out of your way to remove it. Do what you can to minimize it, but in the end, your tank will learn to clean itself. It's quite amazing when you realise that all the algaes start subsiding and your tank needs less and less cleaning. Heres a good thread that puts it in much better perspective... http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...hreadid=249112

yep, too early to take drastic measures to eliminate a little algae outbreak. throw in a bit of patience and keep up with your husbandry and you should start to see an improvement. If it's still a problem after ~6 weeks (or not showing signs of improvement, at least), then you may consider some more aggressive approaches.
