Underwater in the ocean does the moon create a white or blue light? I'm trying to re-create that as best as possible.

I like the blue, but a soft white LED is probably more realistic to the moon's reflection.

I like blue also.. If possible buy the wide angle ones, looks more natural than spotlights in the water.

think it all depends on the type of look you're going for. the blue gives a more deep reef kinda look (I have blue). I've been thinking about trying white though. Would imagine it would give a shallow reef or lagoon effect.

thanks for all the replies. I am actually trying to find what color light the moon displays underwater, blue or white?

MoonlightThe moon faithfully reflects the solar spectrum, so there is no change in the spectrum of light emanating from the moon. The intensity of solar radiation is about 500W/m2 while the intensity of full moon is about 1mW/m2 (1 milli Watt). Thus the intensity of a full moon is 0.5 Million times less that that of noon sunlight. Since the spectrum is the same as sunlight, the ocean waters will have the same diffuse attenuation coefficient for moonlight as sunlight. So even though the moon has the same spectrum of light as the sun the objects illuminated by moonlight lack color, primarily due to the low intensity of light and how the human eye responds at low light.
The reef aquarium industry and hobby has taken to using blue LED's to simulate moonlight. Cleary this is very different from natural moonlight.

I still go back to the yellowish color (some would say a warm white), which too me directly relates tto Masonic's point.

I would ask anyone who does night diving on a reef. I found a website somewhere that said what the intensity and spectrum was of moonlight underwater. Try googleing it.

I read somewhere on here that someone had tried using those red moonlights. I thought it sounded cool, and bought 5 for my 80g and they look pretty cool!! kinda offtopic, but they're cool nonetheless
