Whelks? Flatworm?

TSwifty8 had Whelks pollish off his clam in less than 24 hours.

+1. unless you've recently introduced something to the tank that could have devoured the clam, likely it died on it's own accord and provided a tasty treat for the CUC. What type of clam is it, and can you describe your tank a little?

I have never heard of hermit crabs eating live clams. I have tons of hermits and a couple clams. They never touch them. Hermit crabs will, however, eat a clam when it is dead/about to die.

Do you have any serpent stars? I have one and when I purchased a baby crocea nd it fell on the sand bed the serpent star grabbed it in a flash. I was so mad... $69 down the drain in a day...

Not sure what kind of clam, came from the Gulf, about the size of a half dollar, maybe a little bigger. My Fire shrimp mysteristly dissapeared, and looks like something has moved the substrate under my L/R to make some sort of home. I indroduce live coepods from the beach once a month for the last 6 months, Ive seen tiny pistol shrimp with the pods, could it be a pistol shrimp? Also, I have a good size blue porciline crab, and sometimes my GSMclownfish has a bite taken out of his fin. I think I should I set some sort of trap. Any Trappers out there, I could use your help before I get REALLY ****ed off and take all my L/R out. I know I probably intrduced something, but if I can trap it ,I can set it free, If I have to take out all my L/R its in big trouble. Running out of time.(Almost dark) Thanks!

I don't see any reason to believe anything ate the clam while it was still alive. Even when large tridacnids die, it's not uncommon for the whole carcass to disappear within a few hours.
