Just bought my first SW setup. Live sand question.

After debating with myself about building a tank vs. buying a complete setup, I went with the latter when a super nice 80g bowfront came up on Craigslist. Anyhow, my question is, do I need to keep the live sand submerged until I get my RO/DI running next week? If so, is distilled water from the grocery store ok to use?

A pic of the tank
