stop skimming anytime I use my phosban reactor?

So I have had this problem for a long time. Anytime I use my phosban reactor(no matter what media) I stop skimming. It won't start up for a week or so after I remove it, and usually have to do a large water change. I have cleaned the reactor adn hoses, soaked it to try and remove the oils or what not, and it is still doing it.

Any ideas? This is just getting stupid and I am getting upset.

It could be the pump feeding the reactor. Have you tried soaking and scrubbing down the pump with vinegar, or a different feed pump?

Also... I figure I should ask this... Are you rinsing the media before use?

For carbon I usually rinse with cold tap water for a minute. Then pump about 3 gallons of RO/DI water through the reactor, before I hook it up to the system.

For phosban, I never "pre-rinsed" it, just added it to the reactor, then pumped RO/DI water throught the reactor until the output runs clear. Then hooked it up to the system.

In my test last night I used no media, but I do usually rinse it. Just the pump, hoses and reactor.

I have not tested the pump, or swapped it out. I am going to do a big vinigar soak tonight I guess.

Just at such a loss with this.

Thanks
