Anybody have a Euro-Reef RS100
I'm thinking about buying one. I know the hight of the unit is 20 inches. What I need to know is , if it will work in my 22 inch high sump area? Also if anybody who has it , how much you like it and what you don't like about it?

The main reason I want this skimmer is it is less than 22'' high. That is the hight of my skimmer area. If there is a differen't brand that is the same style as the RS-100 I would consider that as well.

I have one that I got from Euro-Reef. It's a blemished model. They drilled one of the holes like 1/4" or 1/2" too low, resulting in them gluing an extra black disc on the bottom of the skimmer so that the pump and skimmer bottoms would still line up. Result is that mine is around 1/4" or 1/2" taller than the normal model.
The skimmer should work in the dimensions you have listed. When you remove the cup, you just unscrew the locking mechanism, and the cup slides to the side for removal. In other words, you don't need any more vertical clearance above the cup to remove it. Mine works ok. It doesn't produce a lot of foam, though I have yet to see any skimmer produce a lot of foam in my system. I'm 99% confident my tank would run the same without a skimmer. I've used skimmers from AquaC, ASM and Euro-Reef, none produced much skimmate and my nitrates are always under 5ppm, usually under 2ppm. |

I have a ER RS100 and love it. It produces a bunch of nasty skimmate. I feed pretty heavily and have a medium bioload. I clean it weekly and it thanks me by removing the nasty stuff.
Once it broke in, I dont have any problems with it. I do make sure to send some hot RODI water down the air tube once every couple months to clean out any salt creep. But I highly recommend it. The collection cup is very easy to remove and slides straight to the side, so it does not need to be lifted up. |
