Garden Eels
Just checking if anyone who frequents this thread has any in their possesion, or any advice on keeping them? Was going to set up a 400g System for a species only tank for them.
Thanks, Rob |

as far as I know they aren't that hard to keep. the only thing is that they need a DSB (as deep as they are long when fully grown) and peaceful tankmates. the local public aquarium has a display of them with a few firefish and little in rock structure. very open sandy area for them. they make fantastic display animals. the tank is beside the big sharktank yet always attracts enough visitors that it is hard to get a look.

i am currently setting up my 220 with a 6-8 sand bed on about 35 percent of the tank. the rest of the tank will drop off to a normal depth. i am gonig to keep it in place with buried acrylic damns and rocks. i am hoping to keep 2-3 garden eels in the DSB area.
i did some research and found like justinl said, they need a DSB, peaceful tank mates and and some medium flow in thier area to help bring food near them steve

S ruppa- What food will be you planning on feeding them? Also, what species are you planning to keep? I was thinking of keeping H. Hassi (Spotted Garden Eel). Where do you plan on purchasing them from?
-Thanks, Rob |

Oh! You saw them at Dr. Dans? How many were there? I have been to that LFS twice, pretty good coral selection for just opening. Weird open schedule though.
Thanks, Rob |

i was also thinking of the spotted. i am not sure where i was going to geth them from yet. i have a few stores that can make orders/requests.
as far as food they will get what the rest of the tank gets. a variety of foods including live baby brine i a going to hatch. tank mates will be pretty varied. right now i have a PBT that will go in the new tank. other than that mainly small reef fish like chromis, a few more clowns, mandarin, etc. i want to keep the tank looking active with small fish. steve
