yes pvc glue.
ev ery home depot or lowes will have it.
you should get the kit that comes with the purple primer.
for glue and primer its about $6
its very easy to use but strong overpowering smell so use outside and dont inhale
i would say give it a day to cure fully before running the water through- not that it would leak but just to make sure all of the chemiacls cured and wont harm your live stock
good luck!

using GE #1 silicone works fine as well. just make sure you push into your coupling or whatever and twist so its a powerful grab.

PVC glue works fine, but give it a day to cure if you can. I've used it after only a couple hours, though. Just not the smartest if you can avoid it. Silicone won't hold on polymers long term, so I wouldnt use that as a solution for leaks in PVC if that's what you're hoping.

PVS glue is fine unless you are going to have pressure in the pipes. if so you run the risk of the uncured glue not holding the pieces together and then when they come apart you will have a problem.. the little pressure that we have on our systems shouldn't be a problem after an hour or two at the earliest

Thanks for all the help everyone. I would be interested to see how other people support their pipes. If anyone would like to share it would be helpful. I personally plan brace the pipes to the wall behind the tank.

they also sell braces made for the pvc pipes and they can be bought where ever you buy pvc pipe.
the primer is used instead of doing a light sand before gluing. just like with anything the surfaces have to be clean and free of dirt and or grease. well buying new pipes you wouldnt really have to worry about that to much butits just the way these pipes are glued together by the pros so why not? it costs $3 for a can thatll last you for a very very long time. take a look at anyones plumbing pics on this site- most of them used the primer. you can see the purple on the pipes in the pics.
these pipes could be glued with goop or other glues as well as silicone but they wont last over a long period. glue it the right way and you wont have to worry about your pipes coming apart at some point and killing your whole system

Get the two part Primer/cement. Works great I have used it after ten minutes in emergencies. I would let it cure a bit better if I could though.

gule

I use the primer in yellow can it's clear . Don't like the looks of the purple primer. Let it cure fully before running the water through .

The clear primer comes in a black and white can here. I used black PVC mail ordered from Savko, so the clear made more sense to use.
