Copperband Butteryfly attacked feather duster!

hey guys,
I picked up a copperband butterfly today. I got it in my tank and it is doing fine, however I have a hawaiian feather duster and the butterfly picked at it and then tore it completely out of the tube. It tore off the crown but the worm was wriggling around outside the tube so i put it back on the tube and it pulled itself back inside with the lower crown still attached, it then threw the lower crown. It is back in the tube and i positioned it to where the butterfly cant get to it. Do you all think it can get back to full health? I think I may bring it to my LFS and give it to them to put in their frag tank to get back to full health. let me know what you think.
Thanks!

Well, it's hard to say if your feather duster will make it or not but that is what copperbands eat.

It's probably not going to make it, they are incompatible in the same tank. if it gets healthy again in your tank, I imagine the CBB would attack it again.

Hobby Experience: 40 gallon Reef Tank Current Tanks: Still building up my tank, Waving hand anthelia, Hammer Coral, neon bubble tip anemone, rusty angel, midnight angel, 2 green chromis, false percula clown, copperband butteryfly, strawberry dottyback, coral-banded shrimp

That's not a suitable size tank for a copperband. Sorry I doubt that it will do well for you but good luck anyway.

Keep an eye on your midnight angel as they will nip at LPS, softies, zoos and clams once they mature.

The feather duster will shed it's crown if stressed of attacked sometimes. He should be ok, I'd get rid of the butterfly fish, I'd rather have a nice reef than a fish that's going to make a mess of things.

My CBB has been picking on small feather dusters in my tank for years... Top of the food chain for my clean up crew...LOL...

He eats bristle worms, aptasia, pods, basically anything that he can fit in his long mouth... Its funny to watch him hunt and things try to hide from him.

Every once in a while I will life up a rock to expose all of the bristleworms under it.... He goes nuts for about 30 seconds trying to get them, before they bury into the sand..LOL

I agree with all the above. CBB will eat any and all worms. You need to decide between the CBB and your feather duster.

yea i did research them. I decided that I would rather have that fish, I brought the feather duster to my LFS and its doing fine. They gave me duncans for it. Dont worry, I know what im doing bro. If it starts to nip at corals Ill sell it, but its an awesome fish anyways

They gave you duncans for a feather duster? Straight up? If that's the case I'll have to make a trip soon. A 100 feather dusters for 100 duncan heads sounds like a good deal to me!

haha not exactly, i know the guy there pretty well and instead of giving me store credit he just hooked me up with two heads of duncan for 20$ total when they sell em for 25$ per head. but haha yea if they did that i would be buying a lot of feather dusters and trading em in. haha

sorry you don't know what your doing or you won't have posted in the first place. and you wouldn't have place a CBB in a 40g tank
and I don't know of any LFS that would take back a feather duster without its crown let alone trade for duncans??
something doesn't sound right here.

A COPPER BAND does not belong in a 40g tank! any research will tell you that. so either you don't care or don't know

While I agree with John, I would not have phrased it quite like that. The contents of his tank are impossible for that size tank.
