Is my skimmer pump dying on me?

I have a DAS 2000/1 pump on my skimmer. I believe this is essentially a Aquabee 2000. When I run the pump on its own (no venturi or skimmer) it is fine but when I connect the venturi and the skimmer it seems as though the thermal protection kicks in and the pump dies. I have run it in vinegar and cleaned it up as much as I can...Anyone have an idea why this is happening?

What is a decent replacement if I am forced to buy one?

I have no idea, but would it require a new shaft?? Have you checked with the place you bought the skimmer to see if they have an idea??
