"Some things" Fishy in your tank

Many times I have seen wish lists of fish for various tanks and quite often questions are asked about the compatability of this fish with that one ect. Most importantly we don't see a pic of the whole situation

I thought it might be good to have a thread listing the fish that you have been successful raising in your tank and possibly give a few pics of them.

Besides entertainment value this thread would also show people what can be done successfully with various fish together.

for eg:
My current list:
yellow, blue, powder blue and sail fin tangs
yellow fox face
2 anthias
1 copper banded butterfly
3 gobies
1 fire fish
1 coral beauty and 1 cream angel
2 damsels

and my favorite:

Can I add a suggestion? I know some people have the size of their tank in their sig, but some don't. If you could put your tank size/dimensions in the post, that would help us poor newbies out.

I thought of that but it is my hope that this thread will be on a positive note of the possiblities that can be accomplished rather then on criticism of what should not be done.

I understand that. I keep unintentionally starting tang wars when I ask questions.

awesome tank capn, you have the same tank size i do, a 110 high, and i have been debating on getting a powder blue in my tank. what size did you get yours at and when was it added? did you have to add it together with any of your other tangs? again beautiful tank, i'm hoping to get mine there soon enough!

come on rgentry---you have to post a picture here

the tangs were introduced in this order---yellow, blue, sailfin and finally the powder blue as an infant.
The yellow still takes shots at him --even after 8 months--just to show whos boss.

exactly---and that's what I hope to avoid here.
As with all living things--there are no hard and fast rules--and the situations are unlimited
I hope to see some novel and interesting fish situations here.

i just bought a powder brown tang, he is a Acanthurus japonicus.

here is a good read on the two types of tangs sold as powder brown tangs
http://www.wetwebmedia.com/GoldRimSs.htm

he is one of the last things to go into the tank, if i were to add anything it might be a goby or a orchid dotty back

some pics of him in QT. this was right after i added him in, he has colored up nicely since

this will be his future home

Scott your tangs are beautiful! Kudora, again, beautiful fish. And not a bad "future" home I might add.

go to www.photobucket.com and setup a photoalbum its free
upload the pics from your computer to your album
under each pic will be 4 codes
copy the fourth one the "img" code
paste it in your posts here
when you submit your post it turns to a pic like this:

Well its not a fish...but I don't want to feel left out just cause I don't have a tank big enough right now for fish. So here's "Malady", my Harlequin Shrimp.

Thanks. I think this is a great idea for a thread! Its nice to see what fish people are successfully keeping together. As you can see, I have always been drawn to aggressive big fish and been able to keep them successfully in a reef. I will admit though that because nitrates crept up to about 10-15 ppm, I have made that tank a FOWLR and moved my corals over to a smaller tank. I could have probably done a few more water changes and kept things under control but I prefer to feed those big guys daily and lots!

Can't wait to see everyone else's fish

have you FOWLR reefers ever tried running a remote deep sand bed to handle the nitrates?

Yeah a bunch of the FOWLR keepers I know do. I have never tried that but have had success with lots of macro in my fuge. Actually speaking of the sump, this guy is also in my system in the fuge...

He is WAY too aggressive to be with the others. He is in my 75G sump/fuge until he outgrows it and then will get a 75G all to himself.

But back to what I was saying...Most of the FOWLR's that are set up well are very similar to a reef or should be. My tank was testing at 0 nitrates for a long time and eventually they crept up a bit as the fish grew. Took quite a long time though...

I've recently added a purple tang into my 180 pentagon to complement (hey nice fish) my existing yellow tang and sailfin tang. I've also got:

Blue jaw trigger
coral beauty
2 green chromis
2 talbot's damsels
six line wrasse
red squirrelfish
fire clownfish

The yellow and sailfin accepted the new guy alomost immediately with very little aggression shown. I'm now tempted to finish my tang selection with a powder blue, but am trying to be patient. Very tough task for me. Great thread.

My late 90g tank:

1 Powder Blue Tang
1 Tomini Tang
1 Yellow Tang
1 Flame Angelfish
2 Yasha Hase White Ray Gobies
2 False Percula Clownfish
1 Female Mandarin Dragonet
1 Engineer Goby

2 Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp
1 Coral Banded Shrimp
1 Pistol Shrimp

1 Green Bubble Tip Anemone

*Issues*
- Coral Banded Shrimp lunging at fish and constantly hunting my Cleaner Shrimp. So he had to go

- Engineer Goby was a mess. Great fish if your rockwork is VERY secure. I came home one day to my right island split down the middle from his tunnels. After that he had to go.

- Powder Blue Tang... Amazing and beautiful fish, but intolerant of other tangs. If you add one early you need to figure out a way to slowly introduce the other fish for a few days so they get used to each other. I did this by dividing the tank in half with eggcrate for a few days. After that everyone got along.

- Green Bubble Tip Anemone grew too fast. Triple in size within 2 months. Got too close to my SPS, and after unsuccessfully attempting to relocate in the tank multiple times, it had to go.
